HE Mr Stephen Brady AO CVO, Australian Ambassador to France, was bestowed with the insignia of Commander in the Order of the Legion of Honour, on 6 October by the French Minister of European and Foreign affairs, M. Jean-Yves Le Drian. This award recognises the Ambassador’s active role over three years in Paris, marked by the historical military partnership of over 34 billion Euros for the design by France of 12 submarines for the Australian navy, the commemoration of the centenaries of several battles of the First World War in France during which thousands of Australian soldiers lost their lives, the first ever Australian State Visit to France, and major cultural initiatives such as “Versailles: Treasures from the Palace” in Australia and the promotion in France of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.  Ambassador Stephen Brady became only the second Australian civilian ever to receive this award.

The President of ABIE, Bernard Tabary, and several other ABIE members were present at the ceremony honouring the outgoing Ambassador and ABIE Honorary President
