On Thursday evening, 11 May, ABIE and MEDEF guests arrived promptly in order to take in the breathtaking views from the Residence of the Australian Ambassador in the early evening light.  The occasion was a cocktail reception, following the official visit by Mr Jean-Marc Ayrault, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the MEDEF International business delegation to Australia in March 2017.

In the presence of Mr. Guillaume Pepy, Chairman of the France-Australia Business Council of MEDEF International, Chairman of the Executive Board of SNCF, Mr. Ross McInnes, Special Representative to the French Government for Australia, Chairman of the Board of SAFRAN and Bernard Tabary, President of ABIE FRANCE and CEO International of KEOLIS, guests were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Brady, Honorary President of ABIE, who spoke of the special relationship between France and Australia.  The Ambassador mentioned the recent French Presidential elections and the potential for the next 5 years to be very stimulating and productive.  He thanked ABIE Corporate member Jean Barbizet, CEO ANZ France for ANZ’s support for the event.

Mr. Pepy echoed the Ambassador’s sentiments and highlighted the mutual benefits of the France-Australia business relationship.  He commented on the excellent arrangements made for the visit to Australia and the quality of the welcome received there.  Mr. McInnes spoke briefly, referring to the impact of Brexit and underlining the importance of the trade and investment between France and Australia.  Mr. Jean Barbizet thanked guests for attending and spoke of his experiences on the recent delegation to Australia.  Mr Bernard Tabary welcomed this joint ABIE /MEDEF initiative and thanked the Ambassador for his hospitality. After moderating guest comments and questions he invited everyone to enjoy the fine Australian wines and delicious canapés prepared by Ambassador Brady’s chef.

Guests had the opportunity to network while admiring the excellent Australian art collection before heading off to dinner.
